About Our Team
Chris and Joanne Canellos are the founders of CJ’s Pediatric Promise Fund. Joanne has dedicated six years to volunteering in hospice care with Capital Caring Health, a commitment she honors in memory of her father, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 1992. Chris and Joanne, residents of Loudoun County for the past 26 years, have raised three sons.
About Joanne
The pediatric unit of Capital Caring has experienced significant growth in recent years, prompting the establishment of a volunteer committee dedicated to its pediatric arm, Capital Caring Kids. Joanne played a pivotal role in developing and expanding this committee, eventually assuming the role of its chairperson in January 2022. Motivated by the committee’s achievements and aspiration to support more families, she created a 501(c)(3) organization.
In the past two years, Capital Caring Kids has orchestrated various fundraising initiatives, including birthday celebrations, themed holiday baskets, and the formation of the “Elf Squad.” This dedicated group of volunteers wrapped and delivered over 700 gifts valued at over $13,000, benefiting more than 60 families. Additionally, the organization benefits from the generosity of local bakers who donate cakes and baked goods, photographers offering their services for photo shoots, and other businesses contributing special items upon request.
Joanne’s contributions to building the Capital Caring Kids community were recognized in the spring of 2023 when she received the Capital Caring Executive Leadership Award. Furthermore, she enhanced her expertise in pediatric care by completing the 2023 ELNEC (End of Life Nursing Education Consortium) Pediatric Training Course facilitated by the University of Virginia School of Nursing. Joanne earned her Bachelor’s in Communications from George Mason University in 1993.
